One of the most colorful characters in baseball, and one of its smartest men. He was active as a player from 1916 to 1936, making a one game comeback as a pinch hitter in 1941. He got a hit! He holds the major league record for the most years leading the league first basemen in fielding, 9. He holds many other fielding records. Charlie played for the Pirates and Cubs. He managed the Cubs from 1932 through 1938.
A highly regarded young prospect, Milt appeared in 109 games with the Sox in 1953, batting .263. Milt went on the voluntary retired list in January of 1952 to finish his college course, then returned to baseball in June with Birmingham of the Southern Association. He first attracted Red Sox attention when he was playing high school ball, and was signed to a contract. A brother and an uncle were in pro ball. Attends Springhill college in the off season.
Besides the Honus Wagner card, there are three other rare and valuable shortprints from the 1909 T206 Set, and the group makes up what is called "The Big Four".
