After selecting Susac in the first round of the 2022 draft, Oakland sent him to its rookie-level club to see how his bat stacked up against pro hurlers. Watching the backstop go 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI in his debut (Aug. 4) erased any doubts among the brass. Within a week he was on his way up the ladder with a promotion to Class A.
Joe ran into tough pitching luck in 1950. The righthander from Massachusetts was in 15 games, losing 5, and not winning any. In 1949 his record was 13-14. In 1948 it was 14-13. Joe entered baseball in 1941. He joined the Athletics at the end of the 1942 season. Spent the next 3 years in the service. Played for Toronto in 1946, but rejoined the Philadelphia club at end of the season.
Was American League home run champion in 1952. Also led in slugging percentage and runs scored that year and was second in RBI's. Top batting average was .326 in 1950. One of very few who never played in minors, he's been with Indians since 1947. Chosen for All-Star Game last five seasons.
