Vern is one of the game's better shortstops. In the 1949 campaign he hit .290, and tied for the league lead in runs batted in (159). He slammed out 31 doubles and 39 homers. Slugging percentage, 539. Vern was traded to the Sox by the Browns after the 1947 season. In 1945 he topped the circuit in homers. Has been on 5 all-star teams.



Wally played for the Cards and Reds before coming to the Indians in '52. After breaking into pro ball in '40 and spending 3 years in the Services, Wally came up to the Majors with the Pirates in '47. From '47 through '51, he had Batting Marks of .278, .285, .282, .285 and .266 and HR totals of 14, 17, 23, 24 and 22 during those years. Wally batted in 104 Runs for the Pirates in 1950 and led NL outfielders in '50 with a .991 Fielding Mark.



Healthy again in 2004 after a cruel '03 season, Jermaine - who signed with the White Sox in December - gave the Athletics a strong bat. On August 8, he locked down one of the year's most thrilling victories by cracking a go-ahead single in the 18th inning at Minnesota.
