Gerry is a very valuable man to have around a pitching mound. His last three seasons have been his best since his first two years in-baseball. In 1951 his record was 19-13; in 1952 it was 17-14; and finally in 1953 he won 18 and lost only 9. Gerry began in baseball in 1941 with Boise of the Pioneer League and won 22 games, the most in the league. He also led in games with 39 and innings pitched with 261. He had a 20-10 record for Boise the next year.

The hard-throwing righthander was the Atlanta Braves mound leader last season as he posted sixteen wins and led the staff with 157 strikeouts.

"Gus" Suhr solved all the first-base problems for the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies acquired the smooth-fielding, consistent Californian in a mid-season trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and "Gus" merely picked up where he left off. For sheer fielding consistency over a period of years, there probably isn't a better first baseman in the National League. And he can hit, too, a fact he proved again by batting .303 and driving across 54 runs. "Gus" outstanding achievements in his ten years of major league ball were establishing the "Iron Man" record of playing 822 games in succession from September 11, 1931. until June 5, 1937; and setting a new record for unassisted double plays in one season by a first baseman, 7, in 1934.
