View AnswerCoffee Talk Name that player!
A crafty veteran, Kenny topped the Redleg mound staff in Earned Run Average last season. In '40 and '41 he played for the Cubs and joined the Phillies in '43. After 4 years with Philadelphia he came to Cincy in '47 and in '49 won 18 games. His 17 wins against 13 losses made "Raffy" one of the N.L.'s top pitchers in '52.
Like the rippling river, Paul Waner goes on and on. After 14 years of major league ball with the Pittsburgh Pirates, "Big Poison" is still a top-flight outfielder and one of the most dangerous hitters in any league. After his dismal .280 in 1938, the first time he had ever hit under .300, Paul wagered that he would hit .340 the next year. He lost his bet but his .328 was highly gratifying to the Pirates as it brought in 45 runs. There isn't a National League batting honor roll that doesn't carry Paul's name. He has more hits than anybody in the National League today, is third in runs-batted-in, and over a period of 14 years boasts a lifetime batting mark of .342.
One of the Pacific Coast League's top hitters last year, Richie is out to win a regular job with Cleveland in 1969. The switch-hitter was highly touted in Florida during the spring exhibition season and hit very well.
