A top-notch defensive catcher, Sherm was traded to the White Sox by the Browns during the winter. He broke in with Baltimore in 1943 and in '45 led the International League with a .364 batting mark. The Indians gave him a trial in 1946, but he didn't make it. In 1947, the Yankees called him up and traded him to the Browns in 1949. 1950 was his best year at the plate with .280. In the winter he's a department store salesman.
Willard hit .254 for 47 games for the Sox in 1954. He's a veteran National Leaguer, and was for many years one of the Giants' best and most popular players. He began in baseball in 1940 and came to the majors in 1942. He spent the next years in service, then returned in 1946. He was involved in a big trade with the Boston Braves in December 1949, then went to the Redlegs in June 1952, and from there to the American League. He's a slugger, and was always near the top in home runs and runs batted in.
Sharing the American League Runs Batted In crown with 144, the Boston Red Sox slugger clouted 30 homers, hit .295.
