Upon joining the Yankees in 2014, Masahiro made the hype look understated. His 46 strikeouts were the third-most since 1900 for a pitcher in his first five Major League starts.



"Pie" Traynor was one of the greatest third basemen of all time. A great, graceful fielder, he combined his defensive qualities with a potent bat. His lifetime batting average over a period of 17 years with the Pittsburgh Pirates is .320. He collected 2416 hits, drove in 1273 runs. Traynor joined the Pirates in 1920, and finished his active career in 1937. He took over the managership of the Pirates in 1934, holding that post until September, last year. He is still with the Club in an executive capacity. Traynor holds the National League record for a third baseman participating in the most double plays, 41 in 1925. He was voted as third baseman on seven all-star teams by the Sporting News.



Johnny is one of the best fielders and hitters in the game. He was in 103 games for the Tigers during the course of the 1953 season, batting .292. He had 22 doubles, 24 runs batted in and 43 runs scored. He holds some batting and fielding records. He got 205 hits in 1942, his rookie year with the Boston Red Sox, tying a major league record for making 200 or more hits in first year. Was the American Association's Most Valuable Player in 1941 with Louisville.
