Joe, who becomes a 10-year man this year, came to the Orioles from the A's in a winter trade. His best years in the Majors were 1948, when he had a 14-13 record and 1949 with 13 wins. Joe made his pro debut with Newport News in '41 and won 15. In '42 at Wilmington he had an 18-9 mark and got a trial with the A's. He came up to stick in 1947.
Former White Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet's emergence as an ace was among the highlights for the White Sox in 2024. A career reliever to that point, the left-hander posted a 3.58 ERA in his 32 times on the bump, finishing third in the American League with 220 strikeouts. Fellow starter Erick Fedde, back from a star turn in the KBO League, amassed 4.7 WAR in 21 starts, going 7-4. Outfielder Luis Robert Jr. stole a career-high 23 bases.
The Phillies parted with a good amount of cash and two players to get Murry from the Pittsburgh Pirates for the 1954 season. He's a good pitcher, who could have won 20 games during a few of the past seasons, with a good hitting team behind him. Murry isn't so young any more, but another good season and the Phils will have been repaid. He was 10-19 in 1953, but the record could have been reversed with a better team.
