Widely heralded as another "Dizzy" Dean, "Vinegar Bend" (from town where he was born) won 12, lost 3 for Albany, Ga. in '49 and had a 1.98 ERA. At Winston-Salem in '50 he had a 17-7 record and led the League in Strikeouts with 227. His 257 SO's for Houston led the Texas League in '51 - he fanned 18 in 1 game, 17 in another and 15 on 2 other occasions. Each of the 3 minor league teams he's played for, has been a pennant winner.



Had a 16-7 record with Yankees in 1948. Led Yank pitchers in victories in 1947 with 19 wins. In World Series that year he won second game. A graduate of Oklahoma A and M. Playing with Cleveland Indians from 1943 to 1946 he won 51 games. Baseball experts consider trade that brought Allie to Yankees one of smartest in baseball.



After winning 15 games for Shreveport (Texas League) in '51 and coming back with 16 Wins and a 2.73 ERA in 1952, Jim was drafted by the Cubs. Sent to Springfield at the start of the '53 season, he was recalled in the middle of the campaign and gave a creditable performance. 1949 was Jim's initial year in pro ball and he had a 14-5 mark at Alexandria.
