"Hoop" was signed by the Giants at a Polo Grounds tryout session. He was in the Service during the 1943-44-45 seasons. After mediocre seasons in '46 and '47, he really found himself in '48 when he led Sally League pitchers with a 20-9 record while playing for Jacksonville. He topped the International League in pitching percentage in '49 with 19-3 .864 record for Buffalo. "Hoop" was 15-10 for the A's in '50. He attended Panzer College during off-seasons.
