Connie had 3 great years at Havana before the Senators brought him up. These 3 years, '47, '48 and '49, he had records of 25-6, 20-11 and 25-8, and Earned Run Averages of 1.66, 1.67 and 1.53 respectively. He also led the Florida-International League in Strikeouts 2 of those 3 years. Ageless Connie's victory total topped the Nats staff in '51 and he finished 16 of the first 19 games he started that year. He was a '51 A.L. All Star game pitching choice but didn't see action.

It is hard to imagine Bill ever topping the amazing slugging record he compiled with Lubbock of the West Texas-New Mexico League in '47. Not only did he hit a total of 70 Homers 57 in the regular season and 13 in the playoffs but also batted in 190 runs and had a .374 B.A.! He hit 28 HR's and had 110 RBI's with Dallas in '49 before the Cubs brought him up. Nicknamed the "Whip" because of his powerful arm, Bill was out most of the '51 season with a broken wrist.

In his third season as a major league outfielder, Taft Wright has definitely proved his ability. Starting with Washington in 1938 after five seasons of minor league experience, Wright hit .350. He followed that up with a mark of .309 last year while driving across 93 runs on 154 hits. The Senators traded Wright to the White Sox last December for Walker but the change of scenery has not dampened his ardor at the plate. He has been up among the league's leading hitters since the season opened.
