Bill Dickey has been the regular catcher for the New York Yankees since 1929, coming to them from Buffalo in 1928. He has proven himself to be one of the greatest catchers of all time because of his smart handling of pitchers and his ability to prevent stolen bases with his "whip" throwing arm. Bill is also a dangerous man at bat, failing to hit over .300 only once in his 11 years of major-league baseball. He has taken part in four World Series with the Yankees, getting a batting average of .438 in the 1932 Series and .400 in the 1938 Series. His 11-year record shows the following: played in 1225 games, getting 1434 hits for an average of .322.
Henry Zimmerman, infielder of the Chicago National League team, was born in New York City, February 10, 1886. In 1905 he was the star pitcher for the Minfords of New York. In 1906 he played with the Bronx Athletic and Red Hook teams, and in 1907 went to Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He was bought by the Chicago Cubs August 25, 1907.
Arm trouble struck Minnie in '68, after he notched 22 saves for the Angels the previous year. The 1967 Fireman of the Year set a record with 72 appearances.
