The backs of the 1916 Sporting News M101-4 black and white cards were customized and created for distribution through a variety of advertisers such as The Sporting News, Altoona Tribune, Gimbel’s Department Stores, Standard Biscuit, Weil Baking Company, and other smaller companies.
Won 4 and lost 3 for Braves in 1950. In a total of 19 contests. Spotted by scouts for Boston while pitching for the Waltham, Mass., High School. Signed on graduation. With Pawtucket in 1947, winning 6, losing 1, and compiling an earned run average of 1.96. Had 10-6 record for Milwaukee in 1948. With the Braves in spring of 1949, but returned to Milwaukee. there again, May 1951.
A superstar in his era, Wade has seen the appreciation of his greatness only grow with the modern emphasis on plate discipline and on-base skills. The five-time AL batting champion produced more walks than strikeouts in 17 of his 18 seasons.
