Pres returned to baseball in 1953 from military service. He started the season with the Cubs, appearing in 33 games, then was acquired by the Pirates. He got into the Pittsburgh line-up 88 times. Pres first attracted scouts' attention while he played high school ball in Springfield, Mo. George Sisler invited him to appear at a Dodger try-out camp. Was signed to contract and played in the Brooklyn organization. Was with Dodgers in 1948. Cubs purchased him in 1949.

Thairo has been a revelation ever since he was purchased from the Yankees, who couldn't break open a roster spot for him, in 2021. Last season, he was the first Giants infielder since Hall-of- Famer Joe Morgan four decades earlier with at least 14 home runs and 21 stolen bases in a season. Estrada led the team in steals and hits, and was third in RBI.

One of the few stars never to play in the minors, the Texas University ace broke into the Reds' lineup in 1946 after being discharged from the Army Air Force. Grady caught the eyes of Big League scouts while playing with army teams. Considered a top-notch fielder, he led all National League 3rd basemen in 1949 in double plays and fielding with a .975 average. A fractured right thumb sidelined him for two months in 1951.
