Holding down first base for the Giants today is a young product of Fordham University - "Babe" Young. "Babe" was voted the most valuable player in the Southern Association last year, batting .364 for Knoxville, second highest in the league, and leading the league in runs batted in with 137. A long-range socker, Babe was installed at first by the Giants last September and batted in 14 runs in 22 games. Young joined the Giant organization on his graduation from Fordham in 1936. He is also a fine defensive player, and should have a long and successful career in the majors.
Josh was named the Blue Jays' top prospect for the 2002 season, but he took an unusual path to get there. Born in Alaska and raised in Idaho, the muscular catcher was drafted in the 10th round in 1996. After hitting just .228 in '00, he emerged as the Southern League (AA) MVP in '01, as he led the circuit in doubles and homers. Josh also owns a powerful arm.
The hard-hitting catcher was the Midwest League batting champion in '59. The following year, Tim was 2nd in the S.A. in hitting.
