Jim is one of the most courageous fellows in baseball. He was in 27 games for the Braves in 1954 and his record was 8-2. He worked 128 innings and his earned run average was 3.52. He began in baseball in 1943 with Louisville and first came to the majors in 1945 with the Boston Red Sox. He has also pitched for the St. Louis Browns and the Philadelphia Athletics. He joined his present team in 1951 when they were the Boston Braves.
Blessed with blazing speed, Nolan unleased his fastball at Greenville in '66 and paced the Western Carolina League with 17 wins and 272 strikouts. He was named the circuit's top pitcher.
Bob pitched AL's only no-hitter last year, beating Detroit Tigers 2-0. He also won 20 games, while losing 14, led League in complete games with 20, and had most shutouts, 10. His 2.82 ERA was second in League. Started as a combination infielder-outfielder, and only had pitched, and lost, one game prior to 1946. That year with the Indians he had a 4-5 record and the next year he won 11 and lost 5.
