James Clyde Delehanty, infielder of the Brooklyn Federal League team, one of the famous family of Delehantys, was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 20, 1879. He stepped into the professional field with Allentown, Pa., in the Atlantic League in 1898, and remained during 1899. He played with Worcester, Mass., in 1900, and broke his knee. The following year he was with Chicago Nationals; in 1902 and 1903 with Little Rock, Ark., in Southern League; Boston Nationals in 1904 and 1905; Cincinnati Nationals, 1906; St. Louis Americans in 1907; and Washington the same year and the following two years. He joined Detroit late in 1909, and stayed until the fall of 1912, when he was sent to Minneapolis, from which team he went to the Brooklyn Federals in 1914.



Johnny, a former Catcher, is starting his 28th season in organized baseball. He played for the White Sox, Senators, Braves, Reds and Pirates. During his 12 seasons at Indianapolis, he hit .359 in '30, .326 in '35 and .338 in '47. In '39 at Kansas City he led American Assn. Catchers in Fielding (.989). He managed Birmingham from 1942 to 1944.



Regarded as one of the top prospects in the Dodger farm system, Jim was traded to the Braves early in '53 before getting a chance to break to the Brooklyn lineup. He never played less than Triple A ball, breaking in with St. Paul in '49 and playing for them the next 2 seasons. As an Outfielder and Shortstop, he hit .274 in '49, .299 in '50 and .301 in '51. Jim made the IL All-Star team in '52.
