Wounded in combat in the Phillipines, "Sheriff" staged a 9 month fight to recover. He returned to Columbus in '46 to have the best year of his career with a 16-8 record. The Reds brought him up for a trial in 1951 after he won 12 for Syracuse in '50. Sent down to Columbus in '51, he had a 7-15 record. A future lawyer, he's studying at St. Louis University.



Steven came out of Baylor University, where he set a record with 28 victories, as the Yankees 4th-round draft pick in 2003. He signed the next spring and won 11 games against four losses for a pair of A-ball squads, posting earned run averages in the mid-2.00s for each. Able to throw his fastball 94 miles-per-hour, he is a leading prospect.



A real speed-merchant, Bill led the National League in Stolen Bases with 26 in '53, his freshman year and placed 2nd in Triples. In 1950, his first year of pro ball he set a Northern League record with 66 Stolen Bases at Eau Claire. With Denver in '51, Bill hit .303, and in '52 at Milwaukee (American Assn.) he hit .325 and stole 30 bases.
