This is Con's second try in the Big Leagues. He started the 1951 season with the Pirates, but was sent back to San Francisco. The Phils drafted him, hoping he shows some of his Pacific Coast League form. A University of San Francisco graduate, Con led the Coast League in Strikeouts in '48 with 171 and '49 with 164. He had a 7-7 record at San Francisco in 1951.
In 1949 Roy was Rookie of a Year with a .306 B.A. for St. Louis. But Roy was plagued by injuries until sold to Washington in '54. Last year Roy topped the Nats in homers and R.B.I.'s.
Andy is rightly one of the most popular fellows in our national pastime. He is a wonderful fielder with a top-notch throwing arm. In addition, he's a dangerous man at bat. He was in 140 games for the Braves in 1953, and hit a nice .297. The fact that he hits a long ball is attested to by his 23 doubles, 4 triples and 17 homers. He batted in 72 runs.
