Harry was one of 8 AL hurlers to win 15 or more games in '52. This, plus an excellent Emmed Run Average, earned him a spot on the Rookie All-Star team. He's been pitching in pro ball since '46, when he broke in with Martinsville with a 15-12 record. With Savannah in '47 and '48 he posted marks of 16-13 and 15-15. After a brief stint with the A's in '50 he went to Buffalo. Harry won 18 games for Savannah in '51.
A $60,000 bonus boy, Billy made the jump to the Red Sox in '53 directly from American Legion baseball. He made his first Major League hit his 8th time at bat, tripling against Washington. He started the next day and hit a single and double in his first 2 swings. Extremely fast, Bill is often used as a pinch-runner. He can play second, third or shortstop.
Fred Fitzsimmons, one of the veterans of baseball, started playing ball in 1920 with the Mus- \\kegon Club, of the Central League. On August 8th, 1925, after 2 1⁄2 years with Muskegon and 2 1⁄2 years with Indianapolis, of the American Association, he was purchased by the New York Giants. During his 12 years with the New York Giants, Fred was one of the mainstays of their pitching staff. In 1930 he was the leading pitcher of the National League, with 19 games won and 7 lost. Fred Fitzsimmons is one of the few knuckle-ball twirlers in baseball. During 14 years of major-league baseball, he has pitched a total of 2809 innings in 443 games, winning 185 and losing 130, striking out 760 batters.
