Blessed with a blazing fastball, Bob came into his own last year as he proved himself as a starting pitcher. His many clutch victories late in the season helped the Giants.



Not on Dodgers' roster when spring training began. But has done some good relief chucking since decision was made to carry him. At the end of May his record was 4-3. He began in 1944 with Richmond, and at the end of the season came up to the Dodgers, for whom he won 2 and lost 1. With Dodgers in 1945, 1947, and part of 1948. With Montreal 1949-50. Went 17-7 in '49 and 13-8 in '50.



Wally Berger, one of the best right-handed sluggers of the National League, started his major-league career with the Boston Bees, who purchased him from Los Angeles. He has batted close to, or better than, .300 each year for the Bees, and in 1935 led the National League for runs batted in with 130. He was also the "home-run king" the same year with 34 homers. Wally was traded to the New York Giants in 1937, for a reported price of $35,000, and a player. On June 6, 1938, he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds for Alex Kampouris. His nine-year major-league record shows that he has had a total of 1452 hits, driving in 849 runs for an average of .303.
