According to Scot Reader’s book ‘Inside T206,’ it is estimated that approximately 370 million 1909 T206 cards were produced.
Carl worked primarily in relief in 1953 with the Athletics, although he did begin 8 games. However, he relieved in 20 others and had an overall record of 3-7. The preceding season gives a better indication of what Carl can do. That year he appeared in 30 games, winning 11 and losing 7. Carl never played in the minors. He began in baseball in 1943 with the Athletics and has been with them ever since, with the exception of one full season and part of another spent in service.
Whitie was a member of All-American amateur team that toured England in 1938. He had a trial with Cubs in 1943 and again in 1946. The White Sox obtained him from Cubs that year and he hit .251 for Sox in 84 games. Spent 1947 with Toledo where he had a .305 average, including 30 doubles and 16 homers. Browns purchased him from Toledo and he hit .271 for them.
