"Ray Benge in 1933 was the best fielding pitcher for the most games played in the National League with an average of 1.000 in 37 games. He pitches an overhand curved ball. Cleveland had him for two years (1925-26) but let him go to the Three-I League. The Phillies got him in Waco, Texas, in 1928 and kept him for six seasons before letting him go to the Dodgers. He was born in Jacksonville, Texas, April 22, 1902. Stands 5 feet, 9 1⁄2 inches high and weighs 160 pounds. He throws and bats right-handed. He started out to be a school teacher in Texas but found he could pitch good ball and became a ball player instead."



Dick's versatility in the infield is pointed up by his record during the 1954 season with Pittsburgh. He appeared in a total of 138 games. In the field he played 17 at second base, 55 at third and 66 at short. He hit .270 and had 22 doubles, 5 triples and 1 home run among his 131 hits. He batted in 40 runs and scored a like number. Began in organized baseball in 1943 with Sacramento. He didn't come to the majors until 1951. Has also played for the Cardinals.



In 132 games in 1951. Batted .261. Drove in 42 runs. Had 7 homers, 4 triples, 19 doubles. Pete started pro career as a third baseman and then switched to short. He has played both positions with the Pirates. His first full season with the Pittsburgh club was 1949.
