Used mainly in relief in 1950. Had a 2-3 record in 46 games. In 26 games for the weak-hitting Sox in 1949, winning 1 and losing 14. Won 4, and lost 5, in 1948. Howie attended the University of Illinois for 2 years. Then, in 1946, began in organized baseball with Waterloo of the Three-I League. Won 16, lost 8, the following year. Hit the majors, with the Pale Hose, for the 1948 campaign.
A former East Texas State College Star, Dave is fast and has a strong arm. In 1947, he led American League Outfielders in Assists with 22 and was tops in Double Plays in '48 and '50. In pro ball since 1940, Dave had a trial with the White Sox in '41 and served in the Army part of '42 and all of 1943- 44-45. He came up with the Sox in '46 after hitting .329 at Milwaukee in 130 games. He was traded to the A's in '51. Dave raises cattle during the off-season.
Used to be a bat boy for the Washington Senators and in 1927 joined the big league as a player when he was bought by the Boston Braves from the Richmond Club in the Va. League. A fast base runner, and a good all around player. The Braves sold him to Albany during the present season. He was born in Washington, November 6, 1907; is 5 ft. 11 in. tall, and weighs 170 lbs.; bats and throws right-handed. Last season he hit .250 for the Braves in 50 games.
