In his fourth season with the Phillies, "Hersh" Martin may blossom out as a vastly improved ball player. His showings up to now have been good but this year he is a more seasoned player, a steadier fielder and should hit far better than ever before. Last year Martin's batting average was .282. Martin jumped into professional baseball on his graduation from Oklahoma A. & M. in 1932. He is married and spends his winters fishing, hunting and golfing. His home is in Vienna, Mo.

Martin O'Toole, pitcher of the Pittsburgh Club of the National League, was born at Framingham, Mass., in October, 1889. He started professionally with the Lynn Club of the New England League, in 1907. Tried out by Cincinnati in 1909, but sent back to Brockton, of the New England League. In 1910 Boston Americans purchased him, but the same season swapped him to St. Paul, of the American Association. St. Paul sent him to Sioux City of the Western League, but he came back and played with St. Paul during 1911, when he was purchased by Pittsburgh for the highest price ever paid for a ball player, $22,500.
