While playing semi-pro ball for $5 a game in 1919, Bottomley was Invited to St. Louis camp after a police officer saw him play and recommended him to general manager Branch Rickey. Signed shority thereafter, the first baseman went on to enjoy a Hall of Fame career, winning two World Series and the MVP in 1928.
Pitched a total of 118 innings in 1951. Won 6 games, lost 12, Turned in some neat relief jobs. Had earned run average of 4.19. Balanced 53 walks with 55 strikeouts. Began in baseball in 1935. Ken's best year was 1949, with a 17 and 10 record. To Phils from Pirates in 1947.
Because of the large size of the 1911 Turkey Red card, careful storage and preservation were problematic, and high-grade examples are quite difficult to find. Regardless, the T3 Turkey Red baseball cards are considered by many to be the most beautiful sportscard issue ever created.
