Beginning his career with Bradford in the Pony League in 1940, his record was not spectacular though he did strike out 62 batters in 66 innings. Next year he led the Three I League in games won. After that his Hartford record for the Eastern League was 17-12. In rejoining the Braves after the war, he won 8 and lost 5. Last year he really clicked - winning 21 - losing 10.

"Hogie" has been shuttling between Brooklyn and St. Paul since 1947. He had trials with the Dodgers in '47 and '48 and finally made the grade in 1951. A fast, side-arm hurler, Phil had a great record at St. Paul, winning 16 in '47, 12 in '48, 22 in '49, 16 in '50 and striking out 495 in 4 seasons. 1946 was his first year in organized ball, and he won 15 of the 50 games Grand Forks won during the season. With a little more control, he'll be a winner in the majors.

In a rare start, Hoyt pitched a no-hitter vs. the Yankees in 1958.
