Del is a fine young catcher, and a real competitor. The Captain of the Braves, Del was hampered by a knee and leg injury during the season. Nevertheless, he appeared in 138 games and hit .242. He had 112 hits, and these included 18 doubles, 2 triples and 21 home runs. He drove in 64 runs and scored 60. Del began in baseball in 1948 and first came to the majors in mid-1949 with the Braves, who were then playing in Boston. He lost 1951 and 1952, serving in the Army. He returned in 1953.

One of the fastest runners on the Detroit Tigers is Heinie Schuble. He appeared in 101 games last year for the Tigers and batted .271. He played 76 games at third base, fielding .941, and 15 as shortstop, fielding .949. Schuble had a try-out with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1927, but failed to make the grade and he went to the Texas league, where he played Bo sensationally that he was grabbed by Detroit. Heinie hails from Houston, Texas, where he was born in 1906. He is 5 feet, 8 inches tall, weighs 160 pounds, bats and throws right-handed.
