After serving 3 years in the Navy, Harry was signed by the Reds as a free agent in 1946. That year at Ogden, he had a 23-6 record, wining 17 in a row. In '47 at Columbia he won 17 and the Reds gave him a brief trial. At Tulsa in '48, he led the Texas League in pitching (22-10) and also in Pinch-Hitting. The Reds recalled him at the end of 1949 after he won 14 and lost 12 at Syracuse. Used in relief he had a 1-1 mark in '49 and 0 decisions in '50.



In 5 seasons of Minor League ball, Bill has never failed to hit over .300. At Phoenix in 1947, his first year, he hit .336 in 60 games. He followed this up with .316 and 144 RBI's, and in '49, had a .339 BA and drove in 130 Runs at Bremerton. Bill led the Western League in '50 with .346 at Sioux City and in '53 at Nashville hit .350 and 22 Homers.



Was star of 1951 World Series, making 11 hits and compiling a .458 batting average. A broken ankle suffered in an exhibition game against Cleveland kept him idle most of 1952 season. Broke into majors with Giants in 1949 and has a lifetime batting average of .304. Was eighth in league with .329 in 1953.
