Cleveland Indians signed him hurriedly late in September 1920, to play shortstop after Ray Chapman had died after being hit by a pitched ball. Won the place right away and played in World Series that Fall. Remained with Cleveland until 1931 when he joined the Yankees. Now plays at third base. Starred in baseball at the University of Alabama before entering professional ball. Born in Titus, Alabama in 1898, 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighs 155 lbs. Bats left handed, throws right. Last year hit .272 in 124 games.



One of Mike's finest games of 1972 was vs. his former Bosox teammates, August 28th. He hit 3-run Homer in 4th inning & 2-run Double in 6th as Chisox won 6-4.



The Dodgers brought Johnny up from Montreal in April of '52. He's been in the Dodger system since '47 when he broke in with Olean of the Pony League and has worked his way up to the majors steadily. Johnny has always compiled good Earned Run Averages. In '50 with Ft. Worth he had 11-12 record and a 2.21 ERA. In '49 with Danville he had a 13-9 record with a 2. 66 ERA, striking out 95 while walking only 43.
