1952 was first season in the majors for Billy as a regular, although he had been with Yankees since mid-1950. He's a scrappy, hustling, fighter, in tradition of good Yankee second basemen. In 1947 with Phoenix he led Arkansas-Texas League with an average of .392. He also led in at bats, hits, doubles, runs batted in, putouts and assists. Yankees purchased him from Oakland.
