Switching from a regular starting role to the bullpen, Clem became the Dodgers' top relief pitcher and also had the best Earned Run Average on the staff in '53. In pro ball since 1944, the former Army Paratrooper, has always been a winner for the Dodgers with records of 5-1 in '51 and 8-4 in '52. In the '51 playoffs he beat the Giants 10-0.
Steven came out of Baylor University, where he set a record with 28 victories, as the Yankees 4th-round draft pick in 2003. He signed the next spring and won 11 games against four losses for a pair of A-ball squads, posting earned run averages in the mid-2.00s for each. Able to throw his fastball 94 miles-per-hour, he is a leading prospect.
Hurled excellent ball in the 1951 World Series. In 39 games for the season, winning 10 and losing 9. Did well in late-season relief roles. Had an earned run average of 3.30. Led the league in that department in 1949 with 2.50. Dave has been in organized baseball since 1939.
