It was rough going for Carl in 1950. Appearing in 43 games, he managed to win only 3 while dropping 10. First on the Athletic roster in 1943. Spent most of 1945 and all of 1946 in service. Returned to baseball in 1947. Carl chalked up a good record in 1948 - his best year up to now. Won 14, and lost 8, for a percentage of .636. Took part in 38 games in 1949. Won 9 and lost 12.
Autographed 1909 T206 Set cards do exist but a large discovery of faked ones was made in 2018.
The hurler was pitching in Tiger Stadium after less than a year in the minors. Joe's biggest thrill in baseball was pitching the pennant-clincher last season. In 2 of Joe's losses in '68, Detroit got only one hit.
