Detroit was 4th in the Western Conference in '63, with 5-8-1. They were 4th in '64, too, with 7-5-2. In '63, they scored 326 points to 265. In '64, their total was 280 to the oppositions' 260. They hope to move up in '65.

Detroit began its rebuild in 2021, overhauling the roster and starting anew. The organization surrounded a youthful roster with a host of veterans, including Brockers. The 10-year veteran started 16 games during his first season with the Lions and became a calming presence in the locker room.

Detroit finished the '65 season with 6 wins, 7 losses and 1 tie. They earned 257 points to their opponents' 295. They were first in KO Returns with 52, returning 1416 yards. Their average return of 27.2 yards was tops, too.
