Heritage Flashback: Growing up in Homewood, Alabama, Ameer looked up to a slew of role models. All eight of his older siblings graduated from college, and some were excellent athletes. "I'm the failure of the family," he joked. Hardly. A history major, Abdullah made the U. of Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll four times and became the first Cornhusker with three 1,000-yard rushing seasons.
One of the fastest moving ends in the game, Dave was the Lions' No. 1 receiver last season. He can fake pass defenders out of plays with ease. Once he's in the clear he's impossible to catch.
Finished 1950 with an average gain per pass of 6.92, 7th in standings. Attempted 336 passes (high for 1950) and completed 152 for a yardage of 2,325. Ranked 6th in passing in 1949. Has played for Bears and Bulldogs. When at University of Texas, sparked Longhorns to Southwest Conference titles (1944, 1946) and wins in Cotton Bowl (1946), Sugar Bowl (1948). Starred in baseball.
