Kings Card of the Day

Spud Webb
The acrobatic, diminutive speedster made his way to Sacramento last July 1, when the Kings sent Travis Mays to the Atlanta Hawks. Finally getting a chance to start last season, "Spud" registered career bests in scoring (13.4 PPG), steals (118) and minutes (2,197).

Name that player!

Bobby's greatest achievement was just being out in the court again, less than 11 months after his frightful auto accident. "Our family," he said, "has learned not to base happiness on whether the ball goes through the hoop." His game gradually rounded back into shape, as his rate of 9.8 AST/48 MIN would indicate.

One of the most exciting rookies in the league, Williams can do everything. The 6'8" guard-forward led the ACC in scoring as a senior, pumping in 26.8 points per game. He also contributed 5.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.1 steals per contest. Williams will back up both Lionel Simmons and Mitch Richmond as a rookie, giving the Kings a uniquely versatile three-player, "2-3" rotation.

Funderburke, a rugged-rebounding power forward from Ohio State, has spent the last three seasons playing overseas. He was the Kings' workhorse in the 1997-98 pre-season, leading the team in minutes per gome (24.3) and scoring overage (13.9).

Chris Duarte
In the 1970s, Saturday Night Live featured Chico Escuela, a fictional Dominican Republic star who liked to say, "Baseball been very, very good to me." Duarte is a real-life Dominican athlete who'd probably say basketball has been very, very good to him. He's living the life as an NBA player with the Kings.
