HAKEEM'S DREAM SEASON CLIMAXES WITH DEFENSIVE AWARD. New York, NY, May 14, 1993 - Houston's Hakeem Olajuwon, the league blocked-shot leader in three of the last four seasons, has been named the 1993 NBA Defensive Player of the Year. In 1992-93, the 7-0 Nigerian rejected 55 more shots (342) than any other player, led all centers in steals (150) and was second in defensive rebounds (785). He captured 74% of the possible votes.

The San Diego Rockets came into existence in 1967 as the 12th NBA member. The name, selected from more than 10,000 entries in a contest, still fit nicely when the franchise moved to Houston (home of Johnson Space Center) before the 1971-72 season. Houston was the only Western Conference team besides the Lakers to reach the NBA Finals in the 1980s. DID YOU KNOW? Six former Rockets players - John Lucas, Rick Adelman, Mike Dunleavy, Matt Guokas, Pat Riley and current Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich - are currently serving as head coaches in the NBA. The Rockets have led the NBA in scoring (1972-73), rebounds (1969-70) and assists (1975-76). SCORECARD. With a 131-125 triumph over the Denver Nuggets at The Summit on April 21, 1991, the Rockets established a franchise record with 52 victories.



Mike rose into prominance with an outstanding performance for the Rockets in the 1981 NBA Playoffs. He saw 1609 minutes of action during the season.



Providing veteran stability for a team stacked with promising youngsters, Gordon goes about his business swishing shots with cool efficiency. In 2021-22, he averaged 2.2 triples while boasting a 41.2 percent success rate from deep. It marked his eighth straight campaign averaging at least two 3s (the fourth-longest streak in the league).

Calvin Murphy
Calvin holds every Niagara scoring mark, both frosh and varsity. He is the fifth highest scorer in major college history and his career average of 33.1 points per game ranks third among all major collegians in history. Calvin's single game career record is 68 points vs. Syracuse, 12-7-68, and he was the nation's leading scorer during his sophomore season.
