A proven forward, Lou moved his talents to guard last season as a result of his outstanding play in the 1968-69 playoffs. The switch enabled him to defend against smaller guards and gave him more shots. As a result he enjoyed his finest scoring season and helped the Hawks reach the Western Division finals. Lou made the NBA Second All-Star team in 1969-70.
Though known for his defense, Stacey has proven to be among the NBA's best young all-around players. He finished second among the Hawks for scoring, rebounding and blocked shots in 1991-92.
But for Cincinnati's Oscar Robertson and Los Angeles' Jerry West, this speedy, spectacular Providence All-American would have won the rookie of the year award last season. A sensational dribbler and passer, Lennie also showed a remarkable shooting ability, relying mainly on a one-hander thrown from seemingly impossible angles. Although the smallest man on the team, he was the fourth highest scorer, averag. ing nearly 12 points a game.
