Name that player!

The Washington Nationals assumed they would have a long-term solution behind the plate when they traded Max Scherzer and Trea Turner to the Dodgers for Keibert (among others) in 2021. Ruiz has done nothing to dissuade that opinion. Last year, he ranked very high among NL catchers in runners caught stealing, pickoffs, doubles and strikeout percentage.

"Twig" played almost every infield position for the Nats last season. A top-notch fielder, he Height: 5'11" started in the Cub Farm System at Des Moines in '48 and the following year hit .275 for Los Angeles. Chicago brought him up late that season and in '50 he played the infield and outfield."Twig" was traded to the Dodgers in '51 and was sent to St. Paul where he batted .312 in '52.

Pitchers treat Soto like the unwanted dish at dinner, offering a hard pass before eyeing the next thing at the plate. The thought of giving him anything to hit is enough to make stomachs turn. So twirlers reject the chance and counter with a forkful of balls, walking him a league-high 145 times (including 23 intentionally) in 2021.

Juan Soto
Juan's 145 walks in 2021 were the second-most ever for a player age 22 or younger, trailing only the 147 Ted Williams drew in 1941. For Soto, all those free passes contributed to the top OBP in the Major Leagues, and a second-place finish in the NL MVP vote.
