Going the other way for a home run in San Diego's cavernous ballpark is no easy feat. Making it look like child's play on June 16, 2016, Harper swatted a two-run shot to left as part of Washington's 8-5 win. "I'm looking for balls that I can crush," he said. "Swing the bat, swing it hard and hit some over the fence."
No. 22. Left-Hander's Advantage. Left-handed batters like Chuck Klein have a big advantage ove right-handed batters. The left-hand batter swings directly into his stride to first base with a flying start, and the right-hand batter swings away from it and has only a standing start. Also the left-hander is three or four feet closer to first base before he begins to swing. During the season a left-handed batter will beat out many an infield hit that would be lost to a right-hander of equal hitting ability. - By Austen Lake, Baseball Editor, Boston Transcript.
Although only in his middle twenties, Chuck is a veteran of 8 Major League campaigns. He started with the Red Sox in '47 and gained recognition as a top-flight hurler when he won 11 games in '49. He followed with 12 victories the next year and had a 10-9 record in '51. The '52 season found him in a Chisox uniform and he posted a 3.13 E.R.A. before joining the Nats.
