Virgil Trucks
Virgil pitched his first major league no-hit, no-run game in May of 1952 against the Senators. His next turn on the mound, he hurled 6-1/3 innings before giving up a hit. A Big Leaguer since '41, when he came up to the Tigers from Buffalo, he had great seasons in 1942 (14-8), 1943 (16-10), 1946 (14-9) and 1949 (19-11). In 1949, Virgil led the American League in Strikeouts with 153, and had a 2.81 ERA. In 1938, his first year in the minors he won 25 games and fanned 418.

Ted loves to pitch against the Browns, for in 4 years, he's beaten them 8 times against 2 defeats. The Tigers brought him up in 1948 after he posted an 11-7 record at Buffalo in '47. He had a 6-2 record his rookie year, won 10 in 1949 and 10 in '50. In 1951, Ted's 131 Strikeouts was 4th best in the American League. 1942 was his first year in pro ball. After 3 years in Service, he had a trial with the Tigers in '46.



After 10 years in the uniform of the Yankees, Charlie was traded to the Tigers for the 1950 season. In 50 games for the Bengals he hit .314. Had 1 double, 3 triples, 2 homers. Graduated with a BS degree from the University of Maryland, where he has established scholarships for young athletes. To Yanks after 2 years in minors. Became part of baseball's most feared outfield. In the service 1 year.



In 1965, for the second consecutive season, Fred led The Tigers' hurlers in appearances. Credited with five saves and six wins last year, the righty was unscored upon in 32 of his 46 appearances. A product of The Detroit farm chain, Fred began his career in 1956 where he won 11 games at Valdosta in the Georgia-Florida circuit.

Thomas Davis Bridges
Tommy Bridges, one of the veterans of the Detroit Tigers, was a star pitcher for the University of Tennessee. He started his professional baseball career with the Wilmington Club in 1929. He was purchased by the Detroit Tigers from Evansville in 1930, and has been one of the mainstays of their pitching staff ever since. Tommy Bridges was a "strikeout king" of the American League in 1935 and 1936, striking out 163 batters in 1935, and 175 batters in 1936. He was also the leading pitcher of the league in 1936, with 23 games won against 11 games lost. Bridges took part in two World Series, with the Detroit Tigers, pitching 5 games, winning 3 and losing 1. His 9-year major-league average shows that he has pitched 280 games, winning 133, and losing 95 - striking out 1078 batters.
