Mets Card of the Day

Casey Stengel
A long-time favorite of baseball fans, Casey has been managing ballclubs for 37 seasons. "The old professor's" playing days began in 1910 when he broke in with Maysville in the Blue Grass League. In his second season in the minors, Casey won his circuit's batting championship. During his 22 years as a professional baseball player, he topped the .300 mark nine times. In 1949, Casey Stengel was signed to manage the New York Yankees and he brought the Bronx Bombers five straight pennants and World Championships. All-told with the Yankees, Casey won 10 pennants in 12 seasons. In 1962, the National League expansion brought about the birth of the New York Mets. The newly-formed baseball club has been helmed by Casey Stengel since its formation.

Name that player!

Syndergaard laid the groundwork for a big 2019 by throwing the first shutout of his career in the 2018 season finale. At one point during the campaign, he allowed three or fewer runs in 13 consecutive starts. Noah finished 10th in the NL in pitchers WAR (4.0).

Francisco, who averaged one home run every 15.2 at-bats on the farms, continued to swing a powerful bat in The Show in 2023. Four multi-blast performances for the Mets helped him become just the sixth rookie catcher to club at least 25 longballs.

Choo Choo hit better with the Mets than he did in the minors. He's a fine clutch performer.
