The historical MLB batting average with a two-strike count is around .183, but not when Madrigal is at the plate. "Nicky Two Strikes" has a knack for making something of his at-bats, even when he's behind in the count. The infielder has a career .287 average when down to his final strike, which is a few ticks higher than his overall career mark (.274).

One of the major leagues' most exciting rookies of 1972, John played both outfield and first base for the Mets, handled him- self well in the field and showed great speed on the bases. John was an all-state high school star in baseball, football and basketball. Signed by Mets in 1968.
