Name that player!

"A real come back pitcher. Had trials with St. Louis Browns, but failed to make the grade. Went to the minors where he proved a sensational pitcher, and he was bought by Brooklyn at the close of the 1932 season from Memphis club of the Southern Association, where he had led the other pitchers of the league with 27 wins and only 6 defeats. Pitching for Brooklyn last year, Beck worked in 43 games, winning 12 and losing 20, for a club which finished 6th. Beck is a right-hander, 6 feet, 2 inches tall, weighing 190 pounds. He bats and throws right-handed. He was born in Decatur, Ill., 1906."

Twice led the National League in batting, in 1929 and 1932. Last year hit .368 in 148 games. First came to Big League with Yankees as a pitcher. Failed to make the grade. Sent back to the minors. Won a berth with the Giants in 1928 as an outfielder, traded to the Phillies the next year, joined Brooklyn in 1931. Born in San Francisco, 1897. Is six feet tall and weighs 180 pounds. Bats and throws left-handed. Last Winter went to Japan and taught batting to University of Tokio players. Likes to play golf and does it well.

Handy man to have on a ball club as he generally hits better than .300 and can play at a number of infield positions. Began his professional career with Syracuse in the International League in 1926 and finished the season with Lawrence in the New England League. Went up to Cincinnati four years later. His first season in the big league batted .312 in 125 games, playing both second base and third. Was traded to Brooklyn in 1932 and last year hit .281. 25 years old, 5 feet, 7 1/2 inches tall, weighs 160 pounds; bats and throws right handed.
