Gary broke into pro ball in 1956 at Holdrege and led his circuit with 142 strikeouts in 128 innings. His biggest thrill of 1968 was socking a grand-slammer vs. the N.Y. Yanks.
Jumped right from college ball at Baylor University in Texas in 1923 and made good. Three years later pitched a no-hit, no-run game against the Red Sox. Has been one of the star twirlers of the American League ever since. Last year won 10 games and lost 15 for a ball club which finished seventh. Born at Lake Charles, La., in 1900. Did some infielding in boyhood days, before he became a pitching star. Is five feet, 10 1⁄2 inches tall and weighs 173, batting and throwing right-handed.
Dons White Sox uniform for first time in 1951. Hit .325 in 139 games for the 1950 Red Sox. Had 32 doubles, 10 triples, 9 homers. Drove in 74 runs. During 1949 campaign was traded to Boston from Browns. Had been with them since 1943. In a game with the Athletics in 1946, Al hit two triples in 1 inning, tying a record. Career includes six seasons in the minors. One year in service.
