Name that player!

Andrew is a rare player who has hit 20 plus homers, stolen more than 20 bases and hit over .300. A 2023 highlight was his walk-off hit vs. Twins 5-2.23.

Hit .317 in 83 games in 1950. Batted .260 in 125 games in 1949, and had a fielding percentage of .977 which was good enough to lead American League third basemen who were participants in more than 100 games. Entered organized ball in 1938. Stayed in minors several years. In St. Louis Browns' lineup briefly in 1943 and 1944. Then sold to Chicago. Became Sox regular, 1947.

A .309 average was smacked out in 1950 by the right-handed Chicago White Sox third baseman who stands 5'9".

Al Simmons
Batting Tips - The Follow Through. Long distance hitters, like Al Simmons of the Chicago White Sox, get most of their power from a long follow through, allowing the bat to finish the full arc of its sweep. Time your swing to meet the ball in front of the body, where the sweep of the bat is at the point of greatest power and when the arms are fully extended. Never cramp the arms close to the body and always give the wrists loose, free play. After meeting the ball the bat will push it for a brief instant, thus adding distance and making clear the value of the long, free follow through.
