Adbert had trouble facing left-handed hitters. Then in September, he held them to a mere .219/.265/.344 slash line, with a manageable 1.0 HR/9, a whopping 29.4% K rate, and a 5.9% walk rate. As a reliever, in 19.1 innings, he sported a 1.40 ERA with two unintentional walks. He allowed only one homer and K'd 21. His fastball had more velocity in relief.
"Ram" started in the minors in 1940 at Jamestown. He hit .306 and led the Penn State League in Hits, Doubles, and in Putouts and Assists at Shortstop. After serving in the Armed Forces in 1942-43-44-45, he joined the Dodgers in '46 and hit .206 in 62 games. At St. Paul in '47, he was hit in the head by a wild pitch, but still batted .305. Recalled at the end of '48, Bob was traded to the Cubs in 1949. He hit only .177, but lifted his average up to .262 in 1950.
