"Poosh 'Em Up Tony" Lazzeri
Only recently. "Poosh 'Em Up Tony" was a Yankee Stadium battle cry. "Tony" Lazzeri was a great second baseman for the New York Yankees. He started with them in 1926 and for 12 years, until he was given his re- lease to accept a job with the Cubs. he played top-notch ball. He had amazing power in his hitting and was an important part of the famous Yankee "Murderer's Row". Tony ended his playing career with the New York Giants early last year with a lifetime average of .292, 1840 hits, including 178 homers, and 1191 runs-batted-in. He drove in 11 runs in a game in 1936, a league record, and holds league marks with six homers in three consecutive games, and 7 in four consecutive games, set in 1936. He also hit three home runs in a game on two occasions, a rare feat. "Tony" is at present managing Toronto in the International League.
