The turbo-dunking Johnson was a natural draft choice for the hoop-hogging Blazers. Possessing a 34-inch vertical leap, Johnson won the Slam Dunk Contest at the 1992 Orlando Classic. As a senior at Syracuse, he averaged 19.8 points per game and showed he could play some small forward by nabbing 70 boards per contest.

Alaa, Portland's first pick in the 1990 draft, led Duke to three Final Four appearances in four years. He set a Duke school record for career field-goal percentage with a .599 accuracy. During six NCAA tournament games, Alaa averaged 19.0 points per game, highlighted by a 27-point, 14-rebound effort in the East Regional Final victory over Connecticut. He had 14 points and 7 rebounds in the Championship game against Nevada-Las Vegas. As a Junior, he set an ACC record with 20 consecutive field goals made over a four game stretch. He was selected Mr. Basketball in New Jersey following his Senior year at Bloomfield High. Alaa was born in Egypt and moved to the U.S. in 1971 at the age of two.

Quickly developing into one of the NBA's premier young guards, Phil won't reach his 24th birthday until after the start of the 1974-75 season. With a brilliant future ahead of him, he had the league's top single-game effort of 1972-73 with a 53-point explosion against Portland. Phil excels in all aspects of the game.
