Fittingly, it was Larry Bird who hit the first-ever three-point shot in the NBA All-Star Game, back in 1980. A dozen years later he was selected to his 12th NBA All-Star Team (his 10th as a starter) but, for the second straight season, was unable to play because of an injury. He was MVP of the NBA All-Star Game in 1982, and only Isiah Thomas has more steals than Bird (23) in All-Star competition.

He also increased his scoring average from 23.8 to a league-best 30.1, which is the highest scoring increase for a back-to-back MVP award winner in league history.
