Bobby Doerr started his professional baseball career at the age of 16, with the Hollywood Club of the Pacific Coast League, in 1934. He played for Hollywood in 1934 and 1935 and in 1936 moved to the San Diego Club where he batted .342 for the season. His hitting ability attracted the attention of the major-league scouts and he was purchased by the Boston Red Sox in 1937. He is rated as one of the best infield prospects ever sent up by the Pacific Coast League. He is a brilliant fielder at second base, with a whip throwing arm. Doerr's two-year batting average for 200 games played is .256.
